Pietermaritzburg, often called "Maritzburg," is the capital and second-largest city of the KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa. Founded in 1838 by the Voortrekkers, it was named after two leaders, Piet Retief and Gert Maritz. The city has a rich history and is known for its colonial architecture, including the iconic red-brick City Hall, one of the largest all-brick buildings in the Southern Hemisphere.
