Carus Gardens

Renovated to its former glory, and decorated and furnished in the style and luxury of yesteryear, with an eclectic mix of old and new, this magnificent guesthouse is today a member of the South African Tourism Grading Council and justifiably graded four stars. Whilst The Farmhouse itself is breathtaking in its splendour, the corrugated iron roof and Oregon pine doors and furniture are a delight, the rooms nestled away in the property with their adjoining courtyards, are unique. As are the collection of antiques, memorabilia and period pieces, which are conversation pieces in their own right. The Farmhouse Linden boasts nine exquisite and tastefully-designed rooms, each individually furnished in their own unique style, with an eclectic mix of old and new furniture and decor. Then there are the gardens, which are truly a sight to behold. Magnificent old Jacaranda trees, pergolas, water features and proliferation of African birdlife, and trellises bursting with roses, delight the senses and take you on a multitude of journeys. When sitting in the garden it is hard to believe that you are in the heart of Johannesburg. It feels as though you are a million miles from the CBD, yet you are only 15 minutes away from both Sandton and Johannesburg. The Farmhouse Carus Gardens offer the service of occupying all three Suites simultaneously, however, kindly contact us directly to confirm availability.

Area Info

Being the original farmhouse of Linden, the structure was built some 120 years ago by Louw Geldenhuys for his foreman. Today our doors stand open once again for visitors to share in its rich history. Linden was founded on the south-western corner of the farm Klipfontein by Louw Geldenhuys, who farmed fruit and vegetables on Braamfontein farm and was the builder of Emmarentia Dam (named after his wife).

Nowadays Linden is home to South Africans of all creeds and colours, with the well-known Albertina Sisulu, the suburb's most famous resident. With the development of the area, it was perhaps inevitable that the orchards disappeared, but some of the remaining fruit trees can still be seen here and there. Today, Linden is a quiet and well-treed area, away from the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg's commercial centre, but not so far away as to be inconvenient.

The Farmhouse is just 40 minutes from Johannesburg International Airport. Transfers can be arranged on request. There is a large selection of restaurants in nearby Parkhurst, Greenside and Melville where you can experience Johannesburg's Café Society.
Shopping and movies are just 5 minutes away at the Cresta shopping centre, and in nearby Rosebank, you will find the largest African Market in Johannesburg. Monte Casino and the Sandton Convention Centre are 15 minutes away.
