Mazeppa Sunrise Beach Accommodation

Mazeppa Bay is one of the Wild Coast’s most remote and untouched gems — the kind of place where time slows down, and nature takes the spotlight. With sweeping beaches, rugged cliffs, and the warm Indian Ocean, it’s a destination that promises peace and simplicity. The iconic suspension bridge to Mazeppa’s little island is currently not in use, but you can still walk across to the island at low tide, adding to the sense of adventure. Staying at Mazeppa Bay is truly off the beaten path. The nearest town is about 50km away via a gravel road, and the closest big city for grocery shopping is East London — so stocking up before your trip is essential. Once you arrive, the effort melts away as you’re greeted by crashing waves, endless skies, and a rare tranquility that’s hard to find elsewhere. Whether you love fishing, long walks, or simply switching off, Mazeppa offers the perfect setting to reconnect with nature and loved ones.

Area Info

Area activities around Mazeppa Bay:
Mazeppa Bay is famous for its exceptional fishing and swimming. We are just 20m from the sea and your first fishing spot.

Fishing:
The Island at Mazeppa Bay is a large headland feature separated from the shore by a channel of shallow water. For many years, The Island has been famous for its catches of big game fish and sharks. The gully separating The Island from the mainland can also be fished for small pan fish. Garrick, kob, and sharks can also be caught from the rocks at both ends of The Island.

However, angling at Mazeppa is not limited to The Island. There are several good spots along the shore, including Shark Point, Carlisle Gully and the Boiling Pot. Here, the water is deep and good catches of game fish and sharks are often made. You will need heavy tackle to fish these spots, and you are also encouraged to exercise caution while fishing at these spots as they can be quite dangerous.

Hiking:
And if you want to walk, stroll along the aptly named One Mile Beach, or venture into the Manubi Forest. The Manubi Forest offers an interesting nature experience for all nature lovers. There are walking trails through the Manubi Forest with its distinctive Yellowwood and Sneezewood trees that dominate the forest. Enjoy a day of exploring the indigenous forest and do a bit of birding.

The Forest is home to an abundance of bird and animal life and is a particular delight for bird and plant lovers alike.
