Area Info

Venterskroon is a small town established for its mining value. It is situated in the North West Province of South Africa. It is part of the Tlokwe Municipality in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District.

Still, the town has retained its historical charisma, even boasting some of the original buildings of the 1900s. These include the Dutch Reformed Church (officially completed in 1888), the Imperial Inn (Venterskroon Inn) and the house that accommodated the original schoolmaster and mining commissioner.

Significantly, Venterskroon is home to the Vredefort Dome, which is one of the largest meteorite impact structures in the world.

This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is not only significant for its unique topography and catastrophic nature but also for the natural beauty that it now lends to the region. It continues to attract scientists and tourists from all over the world who want to see the impressive power of nature and appreciate the splendour of the local landscape.
