For the first time, in the same way, as you can book a hotel, you can now book homestay huts directly with families on the Wild Coast. It's a game-changer; villages will now benefit directly from mainstream tourism instead of hoping someone will stumble upon them. We are working towards a mutually beneficial partnership between Wild Coast Hotels and Homestay Huts. This is a win, win for all involved: The families and the villages of the Wild Coast enjoy the benefits of becoming part of mainstream tourism. RHOLE / Port Grosvenor Wild Coast Homestay Huts Introduction Adventure accommodation in the heartbeat of the Wild Coast – this is arguably the most spectacular section of the entire Southern African coastline. Idyllic beaches, fabled shipwrecks and magnificent waterfalls leaping directly into the ocean are all within hiking distance of the Rhole Homestays Attractions Every iconic Wild Coast attraction is within striking distance – if, like most, you believe Hole In The Wall to be iconic you have yet to explore the Wild Coast. In every direction, day or night, rain or shine, your next adventure is close. Let your imagination go, it’s all possible and you can take it on in any way you choose. Get your picnic lunch packed into your backpack or picnic basket and head out after breakfast – the earlier the better. The pictures in the gallery will do the area little justice, these words will do them even less. If you’re planning to do absolutely nothing, then head to the forest stream, explore a little and find a waterfall and pool that suits you best. Doing the hike from Luphuthana to Waterfall Bluff, Cathedral Rock and Mfihlelo Falls is a must! The round trip, depending on the route you take and the amount of exploring you decide to do, is only about 18km, but plan to take the entire day! (The drive to Luphuthana is preferable in a 4x4, especially if it rains) One of the nicest, children friendly beaches is just a hop and a skip down the road (just over a kilometre away) or you can walk down the pathways to the rock pools.
Area Info
Whether you’re hoping to find priceless treasures of the Grosvenor wreck, or looking for Top Hat, one of the best fishing/spear-fishing spots on the Wild Coast or wanting to explore the heart of Wild Coast Waterfall Route, the Wild Coast Homestay Huts of Rhole are where it all begins.
There is no place else like this in South Africa. For me the Wild Coast has the freedom of walking through the Swiss Alps except that at times you can look in all directions and see nothing but nature.
My strongest recommendation is that you head out with a local Wild Coast Guide. This ensures you get to explore breathtakingly beautiful secrets of the Wild Coast that you would normally have missed. Also, your guide will navigate you through the intricacies of local custom and tradition so that you don’t inadvertently ruffle the sensitivities of the elders or unintentionally show disrespect to the people who own the land you are exploring.
Help us keep the Wild Coast WILD, bring the benefits of tourism to the villages of the Wild Coast. Include a local Wild Coast Guide on your travels, mix your accommodation up between hotels and homestays. Passing through the Wild Coast without it directly benefitting the people who own the land is the single biggest driver conflict.
