Dullstroom – The Place of Prosperity
Dullstroom, or Emnotweni (“the place of prosperity”), was founded in the 1880s when Dutch settlers arrived, encouraged by President Paul Kruger. Named after Wolterus Dull and the nearby Crocodile River (“Stroom”), the town was officially proclaimed in 1892.
Dullstroom has a rich history, including hardships during the Anglo-Boer War, commemorated today in a remembrance garden. The town later became famous for trout fishing, with stocked dams supporting a thriving angling and tourism industry.
Situated on the Panorama Route, midway between Johannesburg and Kruger National Park, Dullstroom boasts South Africa’s highest train station at 2,077 meters above sea level and is a perfect stopover for travelers exploring the region.
