Area Info
Groblersdal is located in the heart of Mpumalanga's Cultural Heartland in South Africa. Its origins trace back to the irrigation project of the stunning Loskop Dam, and the town is named after WJ Grobler, the original owner of the Klipbank farm.
This charming farming town is situated just 15 minutes north of the expansive Loskop Dam, making it South Africa's second-largest irrigation settlement. The surrounding area is known for its diverse floodplains, where crops such as cotton, tobacco, table grapes, citrus, maize, wheat, vegetables, sunflower seeds, peanuts, peaches, and lucerne thrive.
Like other parts of the Cultural Heartland, Groblersdal is celebrated for its vibrant Ndebele culture, known for its striking house paintings, intricate beadwork, and crafts, which can be explored at several cultural villages in the region. Another historical feature of the area is the Boer War route, which offers a unique journey for history enthusiasts.
Groblersdal is also home to numerous game farms where visitors can enjoy game viewing year-round. Instead of the typical safari experience, Groblersdal offers the chance to see wildlife from a boat at the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve. This protected area is rich in birdlife and diverse wildlife, providing an unforgettable experience for nature lovers.
