Welcome Glen Mountain Gem
Welcome! Glen Mountain Gem and The Boho Cave offers self-catering accommodation located on the owner’s property in Welcome Glen, a small town hidden between the mountains of the Southern Peninsula. The area is incredibly peaceful and the sounds of the birds and the breeze through the trees will most certainly relax guests on their trip to the Deep South. Mountain Gem has full use of the top floor which is able to accommodate up to 5 guests and comprises 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and an open-plan kitchen and living area. A lovely wrap-around balcony completes the setup with a private built-in braai with pull down blinds to keep the weather out, an informal dining area. The property has a swimming pool and Jacuzzi which is located in the shared area on the ground floor, where the owners live. They are a family that loves being outdoors and entertaining, and guests are more than welcome to join them. The Jacuzzi is semi-private and guests need to let the owners know when they want to use it so that it can be switched on in advance. Please be advised that the owners do not use the hot tub when guests are there/requested to use it. The Boho Cave is a boho styled garage conversion fit for Digital Nomads, single travellers and couples. The unit is located on the owner’s property in Welcome Glen. The unit can accommodate up to 2 guests and comprises a bedroom downstairs, which might be steep and narrow for some; with an en-suite bathroom. This newly designed space also features an open plan kitchen and living area with stacking doors that open up onto a private deck with a plunge pool and braai corner.
Area Info
Lying between Fish Hoek and Simons Town, in the bend of the road where the M4 meets the M6, Glencairn and the beach of the same name are often overlooked for the more exciting destinations of Simon’s Town and Cape Point Nature Reserve.
But the mountainous village, with fantastic sea views, is actually a wetland conservation area with hiking trails, 2250 indigenous plant species, resident clawless otters, birds, mongooses and buck - and all this just two kilometres from a busy shopping centre.
Glencairn’s railway station includes a subway that leads right on to the beach and as such is popular with school children from in and around Cape Town. The long Glencairn beach, with its gentle seas and accompanying tidal pool, is perfect for swimming, snorkelling, surfing and sunbathing.
Glencairn is also a good spot for whale watching in season and the locals will tell you tales of Great White sightings too. The wreck of the Glencairn barge lies about 450 metres off the Glencairn quarry and serves as a diving haunt for local divers who love it for the swim-throughs and the stunning reef that surrounds the wreck.
Glencairn’s homes are set right against the mountain, overlooking False Bay, and close to local shops and restaurants. Simon’s Town is literally around the corner and Boulders beach, which has one of the few land-based resident penguin colonies, is 10 minutes’ away.
