Meaning "Place of Rivers", Dinokeng is a region in northern Gauteng and Limpopo rich in natural, cultural and historical heritage sites.
The malaria-free Dinokeng Game Reserve, situated only 48km north of Pretoria on the N1 Platinum Highway, is the only free-roaming Big 5 game reserve in Gauteng.
The first visitors to Dinokeng Game Reserve were officially welcomed in September 2011.
Since then, the 32 500ha reserve has grown, and is still growing, in stature to provide a free-roaming haven for elephant, black and white rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted and brown hyena, giraffe, eland, waterbuck, kudu, red hartebeest, tsetsebe, blue wildebeest, zebra, impala, warthog, serval, genet, caracal, many more plains game and myriad bird species, including the endangered blue crane, white back vulture and martial eagles.
Varying terrain and vegetation, ranging from bushveld to grassy floodplains and savanna thorn veld, support browsing and grazing species that are best enjoyed during our open vehicle Safari Game Drives, guided by experienced Naturalists.
