Kokobela Lodge

The comfortable thatched guest house is cleverly positioned to the side of the 7th fairway, blending into its surroundings, allowing its occupants to feel at peace as part of nature. There is abundant birdlife, free-roaming Impala, warthog, giraffe and other animals all around. The house sleeps up to 8 adults with its four spacious air-conditioned, en-suite bedrooms, with 3 king-size and 1 queen-size beds all with double wardrobes. Four additional single bed mattresses can be added if needed for children up to the age of 12 years old. Linen and towels provided. Three of the four bedrooms walk out onto a wooden deck which stretches along the entire west side of the house, overlooking the natural African landscape. This is the perfect place to enjoy a quiet early morning cup of coffee or a late afternoon sundowner with your friends or family. The 4th bedroom walks out to the fountain in the garden courtyard, where you will find a bench under a tree, the ideal spot for reading. The kitchen, lounge and dining areas all walk out onto the outside pool patio, which is only a few paces away from the 7th fairway. Half of the patio is covered by thatch, and the other half is open, which provides the perfect spot for sunbathing next to the private swimming pool, which is cut into the patio. The bathrooms all have double vanities, a shower and a toilet. Two of the four bathrooms include a bath, one of which opens to a secluded, outdoor shower. To accommodate all guests, there is a 3-seater sofa and a 4-seater sofa in the lounge area as well as a big screen smart TV, DVD and CD player. The dining area has a 10-seater wooden table. The fully equipped kitchen houses everything you would expect: an oven and hob with extractor fan, large fridge-freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle, etc. With plenty of storage space and granite work surfaces throughout. There is a separate, out of view, scullery which houses a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. For your convenience, a daily cleaning service is provided at no additional cost. There is no need to fuss over cleaning the braai (barbecue) yourself either, as it will be cleaned for you as part of the daily service.

Area Info

The garden town of Phalaborwa is located in the Limpopo Province, well-planned and proudly decked out with grassed public areas and flowering trees lining the streets. Phalaborwa was proclaimed in 1957 and is considered a gateway town into the Kruger National Park. The area is rich in minerals too, with generous deposits of apatite and iron ore. The town has Africa’s largest open-cast mine, the copper is recovered at staggering rates, and the mine is currently over 200m deep and 2km wide.

The Phalaborwa gate is South Africa’s northernmost entry into the Kruger National Park, and animal life in this part of the park is prolific around the Letaba River, where animals generally congregate.

The word Phalaborwa means ‘better than the south’, named by a travelling Zimbabwean Karanga tribe who were forced to turn back and head northwards when tribe members were struck down by fever. They settled here around 400 CE after discovering a rich vein of iron ore.

The weather in Phalaborwa is hot throughout most of the year; however, in winter, the evenings and early mornings can become chilly.
